Woman says she defended herself in stabbing

A North Bruce Street woman arrested about 11:45 p.m. Sunday for stabbing the father of her two children told police she was defending herself because he attacked her, reports said.

Tammy Van Fossam is in the Mahoning County jail on a charge of felonious assault and is expected to be arraigned in municipal court later today.

When officers arrived at their home the victim was covered in blood, reports said. Van Fossum told police she and the victim were arguing because he was too drunk to get home and after he got hone he began attacking her. She grabbed a knife to defend herself and stabbed him twice, including once in the stomach.

The victim is being treated at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The victim said he did not want to press charges.
