Saturday’s races at Sharon Speedway were rained out.

The Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series event has been rescheduled to Saturday. It features a $1,000 to-win event plus the $2,000 to-win “Apple Festival Nationals” make-up feature that has been rained out several times.

The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modifieds, HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, and the Summit Racing Equipment Econo Mods also will also be on the card.

Pits open at 4 p.m. with grandstands at 5 and racing at 7. Grandstand admission costs $10. Children 13 and younger are admitted free. Patio seating upgrades cost $5 and fan suite upgrades cost $20 more than general admission.

To reserve, call the track office Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Froome on verge of another Tour win

MARSEILLE, France

Chris Froome has virtually sealed a fourth Tour de France victory on the penultimate stage, stamping his authority on the race in a time trial in Marseille streets.

Froome, the last rider to set off from the Stade Velodrome, finished third in the 22.5-kilometer stage won by Maciej Bodnar, and increased his overall lead.

Colombian rider Rigoberto Uran moved to second place in the general classification, 54 seconds behind Froome, after Frenchman Romain Bardet cracked and dropped to third overall, according to provisional results.

Only the largely ceremonial stage into Paris on the Champs-Elysees stands between Froome and his fourth triumph in five years.

The British rider from Team Sky also won cycling’s biggest race in 2013, 2015 and 2016. He did not win a single stage this year.

Moore leads West to All-Star victory

Maya Moore scored 23 points, reigning league MVP Nneka Ogwumike added 22 points and the West outlasted the East 130-121 in the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday, where most of the attention was on Seattle’s Sue Bird.

The veteran West squad with 55 total All-Star Game selections on its roster, pulled away after a close first half. Moore made 9 of 17 shots, including five 3-pointers, while Ogwumike made 11 of 15 attempts off the bench. Bird had a hand in many of those baskets, finishing with a record 11 assists and eight points.

Moore was named the game’s MVP for the second consecutive All-Star Game.

The youthful East was led by Jonquel Jones with a game-high 24 points, including a dunk in the final minute. There were eight first-time selections on the East roster.

Accelerate stuns favored Arrogate

DEL MAR, Calif.

Accelerate stunned overwhelming favorite Arrogate to win the $300,000 San Diego Handicap by 81/2 lengths on Saturday at Del Mar, snapping the seven-race winning streak of the world’s top-ranked horse.

Arrogate finished third, beaten by 151/4 lengths under jockey Mike Smith in the 4-year-old colt’s return to racing after a nearly four-month layoff.

His trainer, Bob Baffert, said Arrogate “laid an egg” and nothing is wrong with the colt other than he appeared flat.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Accelerate ran 11/16 miles in 1:42.15 and paid $17.60, $32.60 and $22 as the 7-1 second choice in the field of five.

Donworth, a 24-1 shot, returned $119.80 and $67.40. His payoffs were a track record, bettering the old mark of $101.60 and $40.20 set by Cipria on Sept. 1, 1955.

Arrogate paid $38.20 to show. All but $214,466 of the $2,671,938 total win, place and show pool wagering was bet on him.

Arrogate’s winning streak included the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic last year, the $12 million Pegasus World Cup and the $10 million Dubai World Cup.
