Brooke Bobbey went 4 for 4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs and Camryn Lattanzio went 3 for 4 with two doubles and 6 RBIs as Poland rolled in its regional opener. KaiLi Gross pitched four innings and finished the run rule-shortened game.

12-U STATE FINAL

Hamilton West Side 15, Canfield 4

MAUMEE

District 2 winner Canfield’s bid for a state title ended in the finals. The locals would have had to win twice for the championship, but District 9 champion West Side dominated the game. Ben Slanker was 2 for 3 with a two-run homer for Canfield, which had won back-to-back state titles. A.J. Havrilla had two hits and Michael Patellis added an RBI. But West Side was too powerful, with home runs from Braedyn Moore, Blake Detherage, Jackson Martin and Lake Cundiff among its 16 hits. Moore’s homer was a grand slam.

The Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the fourth inning, with the outburst sparked by a triple by Spank Barone, a double by Dave Yemma and two Metro Ice errors. Kevin Belus earned the win for the Yellow Jackets. He tossed five innings, surrendering two runs and three hits and striking out three. Nick Charnas took the loss for Metro Ice. He threw two innings, surrendering six hits and seven runs. He struck out two. DJ Morvay hit a home run to get the Ice on the board in the fourth. Yellow Jackets had 11 hits in the game. Gary Muntean, Barone, and Dylan Duchek each collected multiple hits for Yellow Jackets. Duchek led the Yellow Jackets with three RBIs.
