The Trumbull County Historical Society recently welcomed home furniture and artifacts that were once used by the Webb family.

Today, the Webb home is known as the John Stark Edwards House, which is where the historical society is located at 303 Monroe St. NW. Edwards built the house in 1807. Thomas Denny Webb, a local lawyer and newspaperman, bought it in 1814. Webb started the first newspaper in the Connecticut Western Reserve, The Trump of Fame.

Webb’s descendent, Harry Spencer, took care of the family heirlooms, which date between 1840 and 1860. After Spencer’s death in March, his children donated the furniture according to his wishes to the home where their family lived throughout most of the 19th century.

“I cannot say how honored we are by the Spencer family’s thoughtfulness and trust in us to steward these items,” said Meghan Reed, historical society director. “The collection totaled over 60 items, and the larger furniture pieces are now on view to the public.”

The Edwards House is open for public tours every Thursday through Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Tours are free, family friendly and include two floors of the Edwards House.
