Katie Olenick, a 2008 honors graduate from Ursuline High School who works in the OhioHealth health care system as a board-certified anesthesiologist assistant, recently earned her master’s degree in anesthesia from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Olenick earned her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in biology from Youngstown State University in 2011. She completed her anesthesia training at Texas Medical Center in Houston. While there, she specialized in cardiac anesthesia at the Texas Heart Institute.

She is the daughter of Charles and Faith Olenick of Canfield.

Microsoft recognized Youngstown State University alumna Heather Caban, in her first year with the company, with the Circle of Excellence Platinum Club Award.

Caban, a 2010 graduate from the Williamson College of Business Administration, was selected as one of only 150 employees, out of 120,000 worldwide, to receive Microsoft’s highest level of recognition.

Microsoft’s Circle of Excellence Platinum Club Award program honors the top-performing employees worldwide.

The Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs has honored Michael Walston, CPA and principal with HBK CPAs & Consultants, with its prestigious Young Leaders of the Year award. Walston, who works out of HBK’s Hermitage, Pa., office, has been with the firm for four years. His focus is on tax compliance and consulting as well as financial statement compilation and review engagements.

The PICPA annually recognizes its members under age 40 who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to the accounting profession through their service to PICPA or involvement in other community service activities.

Walston will receive the award at the 2017 PICPA Leadership Conference on Sept. 18 in Harrisburg, Pa. He also will be featured in the fall 2017 issue of the Pennsylvania CPA Journal.

Valerie D’Apolito of the financial services firm Edward Jones in Boardman recently won the firm’s exclusive Spirit of Caring Award designed to recognize those financial advisers who exemplify the values, culture and spirit of giving back.

D’Apolito was one of only 256 financial advisers out of the firm’s more than 15,000 advisers to receive the award.
