NATIONAL LEAGUE

Pirates 13, Rockies 5

DENVER

Rookie Josh Bell had a career-high four hits, Andrew McCutchen had three hits and reached base five times, and the surging Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Colorado Rockies. Pittsburgh has won a season-high six straight and 12 of 14 to move a game above .500 for the first time since starting the season 3-2. Pittsburgh jumped on Colorado starter Jeff Hoffman (6-2) and chased him three batters into the fourth inning. Bell had an RBI single in the first and a three-run double in the second when the Pirates took the lead for good. Bell had a season-high four RBIs.

Cardinals 11, Cubs 3

CHICAGO

Paul DeJong hit a tiebreaking two-run double in St. Louis’ nine-run eighth inning, and the Cardinals cooled off the Chicago Cubs. Matt Bowman (2-3) got the final out of the seventh for the win. The Cubs played without third baseman Kris Bryant, who sprained his left little finger on a headfirst slide on Wednesday. X-rays were negative, but Bryant is experiencing soreness and there is some concern about gripping a bat.

Phillies 6, Brewers 1

PHILADELPHIA

Aaron Nola tied a career-high with nine strikeouts in seven sharp innings, Freddy Galvis hit a two-run homer and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the reeling Milwaukee Brewers. Nola (7-6) allowed one run and five hits. Brewers starter Matt Garza (4-5) gave up two runs and three hits in five innings.Galvis gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead in the first inning when he ripped his 11th homer into the right-field seats.

Marlins 3, Reds 1

CINCINNATI

Jose Urena pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning, Christian Yelich drove in two runs and the struggling Miami Marlins opened a six-game road trip with a victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Urena (8-4) allowed one run with two walks and four strikeouts. He also hit Scott Schebler with a pitch — twice. Urena and three relievers limited the Reds to one extra-base hit: Scooter Gennett’s double. AJ Ramos worked the ninth for his 18th save.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Astros 8, Orioles 7

BALTIMORE

Rookie Yuli Gurriel had a career-high four hits, including a home run, and the Houston Astros received a gritty pitching performance from Mike Fiers in a victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Colin Moran hit his first major league homer and first triple for Houston, and Brian McCann also went deep. After Chris Davis was thrown out trying to bunt against the shift, Ken Giles struck out Mark Trumbo to earn his 21st save. Fiers (7-4) threw 105 pitches over seven innings. The right-hander struck out nine and allowed one run and six hits.

Rangers 4, Rays 3, 10 innings

ST. PETERSBURG

Elvis Andrus homered early, and then snapped a 10th-inning tie with a two-out infield single that gave the struggling Texas Rangers a victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Andrus, who homered in the first inning, hit a sharp grounder off Brad Boxberger (2-1) that forced Evan Longoria to make a diving stop. Pinch runner Delino Shields scored when the third baseman to was unable to complete the throw to first base. Alex Claudio (2-0) pitched two innings in relief of Yu Darvish to get the win. Rays starter Alex Cobb took a three-hitter and a 3-1 lead into the ninth, but couldn’t finish off the Rangers.

Tigers 6, Twins 3

MINNEAPOLIS

Victor Martinez hit two home runs and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins. Anibal Sanchez (2-0) gave up three runs and six hits with five strikeouts and three walks in 52/3 innings for the Tigers, who lost star Miguel Cabrera to a right clavicle contusion in the fourth inning. Cabrera had X-rays that were negative and is listed as day-to-day. Justin Wilson pitched the ninth for his 11th save in 13 chances.

INTERLEAGUE

Mets 7, Athletics 5

NEW YORK

Michael Conforto hit a pair of two-run homers and Jerry Blevins rescued the Mets’ bullpen with a five-out save as New York held off the Oakland Athletics. T.J. Rivera put the Mets ahead in the sixth inning with a two-run single that turned into a Little League home run. Rivera came all the way around to score on the play after third baseman Matt Chapman, trying to get Rivera at second, threw the ball away into right field for a costly error that made it 5-3.
