Vasquez helps Scrappers limit Doubledays to a run

AUBURN, N.Y.

A strong start by Gregori Vasquez led the Scrappers to Thursday’s 3-1 victory over the Auburn Doubledays.

Vasquez (1-1) allowed one run on five hits over 51/3 innings.

The Scrappers (18-12), the first-place team in the Pinckney Division standings, rallied after the Doubledays (11-19) scored in the second inning.

In the third inning, Nolan Jones’ RBI singled tied the game.

Samad Taylor then scored on a forceout for the go-ahead run.

The Scrappers tacked on another run in the fourth when Will Benson scored on an error.

Cesar Ventura got Jeyner Baez to fly out with runners on first and third to end the game for his third save of the season.

Doubledays starter Brigham Hill (0-1) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game after giving up three runs and five hits over four innings.

The Scrappers are 6-1 against Auburn this season.

Despite the low score, the teams combined for seven doubles: Ulysses Cantu, Austen Wade, Dillon Persinger, Kameron Esthay, Omar Meregildo, Chacne Sheaprd and Jeyner Baez.
