Eight high school students visited five libraries within the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system to put on an Arabian Nights performance.
The students came from schools such as Boardman, Ursuline and several others. Each performance consisted of four different fairy tales that were in the Arabian Nights collection.
The actors and actresses used props, costumes and a backdrop to help set the scene. There were four different performances including “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp,” “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves,” “Sinbad the Sailor” and “The Three Princes and Princess Nouronnihar.”
Throughout each of the fairy tale performances, the actors would engage with the audience members. The performances incorporated some comedy to provide laughter and entertainment for the guests. The fairy tales kept the same story line, but were altered a little to make them family friendly.
Guests could go to the Austintown, Boardman, Canfield, Main and Poland library to watch the performance.
The Arabian Nights performance was part of the Summer Discovery program with the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. The Summer Discovery program gives families the opportunity to engage in activities and other educational programs.
