Neighbors | Submitted.Canfield Village Middle School students and staff who raised money to buy a vest for the Canfield Police Department’s new K-9 police dog, Rocky, gathered to celebrate surpassing their goal. A group of seventh-graders at Canfield Village Middle School put their heads together to raise money for the Canfield Police Department’s new K-9 police dog, Rocky. The academy students of seventh-grade teacher Vicki Latimer organized fundraisers at the school and contacted local businesses for donations.
The students, including Fatima Amin, Bryanna Corll, Bella DeBarr, Nikolette Duko, Sammie Johnson, Riley Miller, Grace Viets and Ally Wilson, sold T-shirts, dog tags and bumper stickers with the goal of raising $1,500 to purchase Rocky a K-9 vest. With their hard work and determination, the students surpassed that goal and raised a total of $3,800.
After purchasing the vest, the rest of the money will be earmarked by the Canfield Police Department for any expenses Rocky may incur, including vet bills, training and food.
“The money the students raised will provide a vest for Rocky and the remainder of the money will go toward taking care of Rocky and will be geared toward anything Rocky may need,” said Judd Rubin, CVMS principal.
