Cloverbud Day Camp offers passport to adventure
Join the Mahoning County OSU Extension for a day filled with adventure. If you have a 4-H Cloverbud between the ages of 5 and 8 who enjoy outdoor activities, science based learning, animals, arts and crafts, bring them to the Passport to Adventure Cloverbud Day Camp on Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Southern Park Stables, located at 126 Washington Boulevard in Boardman. This event will provide the opportunity for children to learn about nature and science while also interacting with animals at our very own petting zoo. Lunch will be provided for all participants. The cost is $10 per child. Registration forms can be found online at go.osu.edu/2017cloverbuddaycamp. Registrations are due by July 28. Local church announces installation of a hearing loop system
On July 30, First Presbyterian Church, located at 201 Wick Ave. in Youngstown, invites the public to come experience their new hearing loop system in the sanctuary at 10 a.m. The system will benefit members of the community with hearing aids and those who are hearing impaired without a hearing aid. Hearing aids have made significant improvements in the last decade, but in larger public places they are not able to make a person hear like they would like to. A hearing loop lets them hear clearly and without any difficulty. A hearing loop, also known as an Induction Loop, provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to ‘T’ (Telecoil) setting. This telecoil is found in most modern hearing aids and all cochlear implants. For those who do not have telecoils in their hearing aids, the church has receivers with headsets available that perform the same function. Anyone who uses hearing aids is advised to contact their hearing care provider to make sure your instruments are properly adjusted for listening in a hearing loop or they can contact call the First Presbyterian Church at 330-744-4307.
Book folding
Turn a book into a work of art simply by folding the pages at the Boardman library on Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. Adults and teens may register for this one-hour program.
It’s all about yarn
Bring in your crochet, knitting, plastic canvas or “anything with yarn” project to the Boardman library on Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. and learn from one another. Participants are encouraged to bring all yarn UFOs (unfinished objects). This event is for adults and teens.
I Read YA book club
This book club is for adult fans of Young Adult Literature from ages 18-118. Talk about why you like YA. Read and discuss books. The next meeting will take place on Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Boardman library. They will discuss “Bone Gap” by Laura Ruby.
Reader’s Choice book club
Share your favorite books and find out what new ones are being published at this book club on Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Boardman library. They will discuss the month’s book (“The Oregon Trail” by Rinker Buck) and preview next month’s book. This event is for adults.
Blood drive
There will be a blood drive by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross at the Boardman library on Aug. 28 from 1:30-6:30 p.m. This blood drive will serve the needs of St. Elizabeth Hospital. For appointments, call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
Blood pressure screening
There will be a blood pressure screening by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross at the Boardman library on Aug. 7 from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
Puzzle swap
Swap six of your once-done jigsaw puzzles with others at the Boardman library on Aug. 9 at 4 p.m. This is offered every second Wednesday of the month at the Boardman library at 4 p.m. This event is for adults.
Eat out and benefit the library
Stop by the library and pick up a flyer to participate in fundraisers at the following locations: Chick-Fil-A - Boardman Southern Park location on Aug. 2 from 5-8 p.m. - proceeds benefit the Michael Kusalaba Library Capital Campaign and Texas Roadhouse - Boardman location on Aug. 17 from 4-8 p.m. - proceeds benefit the Springfield Library Capital Campaign. A portion of your purchase will come back to the library.
Boardman Lions and Target host ninth annual New Coats for Kids Program
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, and your children need new coats, the Boardman Lions want to help. There are no age or grade restrictions. Applications will go home with all Boardman elementary students. They are also available on the Boardman Lions website, boardmanlions.com, and in the Boardman library. Applications should be mailed to the address on the application. They should not be given to your school. Applications should be mailed by Sept. 13. You must be a Boardman resident to apply. Qualified applicants will be notified by mail. Families will be invited to a night at Target to select their coats. Since 2009, the Boardman Lions have purchased 733 coats for a total of $33,272. If you would like to donate to the program, visit the Boardman Lions website, boardmanlions.com, for a variety of options. Look for Boardman Lions on Facebook. Puppet tales
There will be a puppet show for the entire family, featuring the fractured fairy tales, “Waking Beauty”, “Goldie Rocks and the Three Bears” and other stories on Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. and Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Boardman library.
Christmas in July event to take place on July 25
Greenbriar Healthcare Center and The Commons Assisted Living are hosting a Christmas in July event on July 25 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for residents, families and staff to enjoy. The event will feature the following vendors: Plexus, Wine Decor, Hand Knitted Scarves, Jen’s Personalized Creations, Young Living, Trades of Hope and more. The event will take place at Greenbriar Healthcare Center, located at 8064 South Ave. in Boardman.

Bring the whole family for stories, games, crafts and fun for all ages at the Boardman library at 10 a.m. on Aug. 2, 9, 23 and 30.
Trains, trains, trains
The Riverside Railroad Club will have a two-day model train display open to the public at the Boardman library. All families are invited to a special story time on Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. featuring train stories and a chance to make and wear an engineer’s hat. The train display will be open on Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Check Into Chess
Join the Boardman library as they play chess on Aug. 8 from 6-8 p.m. This is a family program for all ages. If you would like to learn to play, someone will be happy to teach you.
TAB (Teen Advisory Board) meeting
Check out the Boardman library at the monthly TAB (Teen Advisory Board) meeting on Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m. The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the Boardman library. Help plan and support teen activities at the library. Meet new people and have fun. Newcomers are always welcome. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.
Lego my library
Meet at the Boardman library on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. and enjoy creating Lego designs. Legos will be provided. This event is for children who are ages 6 and older.

Overeaters Anonymous to have local meetings
Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there will be a meeting at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in the Church Hall, Room 2, located at 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna, Ohio. This location is handicapped accessible. On Sundays at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at Shenango Presbyterian Church, located at 3144 Wilmington Road (Route 18) in New Castle, Pa. GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. Italian man and woman to be honored at festival, applications accepted
The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest 2017 is seeking nominations from family members or friends regarding their favorite Italian man or Italian woman. The nominees would be considered for the highest honor and if selected would be introduced in person at the festival ceremony on Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. in downtown Youngstown.
