Township awards road resurfacing contract

Staff report

CANFIELD

The township is planning two public meetings on a recent land annexation, awarded a road-resurfacing contract and accepted a bid on road salt.

The public information session on land annexation will be at 6 p.m. July 27 and Aug. 1 at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Trustee Chairman Brian Governor said the township wants to clear up any questions the public might have on the annexation.

The Mahoning County commissioners approved the annexation of about 22 privately owned acres from the township to the city in February. The land, owned by MALA Properties Ltd. and located on Palmyra Road, will receive city water and sewer service.

The township awarded a $66,423 contract for road resurfacing to Butch & McCree Paving of Hillsville, Pa. The bid was a joint effort with Austintown and Boardman townships, and was $20,000 under budget. A pre-construction meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday will determine a start date.

Williamsburg and Orlando drives are set for resurfacing, and the township will possibly consider other streets. Governor said road resurfacing is projected to finish by September.

The township accepted a bid for road salt at $31.56 a ton through the state purchasing program from Cargill Inc.
