Man throws tantrum

Reports said a man taken into custody at about 3 p.m. Tuesday for violating the terms of his house arrest wept and threw a tantrum in a cruiser and ambulance.

Reports said Troy Griffin, 19, was angry at probation officers who reported him, and when he got into a cruiser to be taken to the Mahoning County jail, he banged his head against a divider so much he cut himself. The officer transporting him had to pull over, and Griffin had to be taken out, reports said.

Griffin was placed in an ambulance but not before he banged his head against the ambulance door, reports said. He was examined at a hospital before being booked into the jail.

Grants available

COLUMBUS

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Wednesday the application process is now open for Ohio law-enforcement teams to apply for $3 million in new state grant money that will replicate or expand Drug Abuse Response Teams and Quick Response Teams to address the state’s opioid epidemic.

Preference will be given to applicants that include other partners such as a mental- health recovery board, peer specialists, fire department, emergency management system agency, faith-based organizations, children services organizations or other appropriate agencies.

The application process can be found on the attorney general’s website – www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/LawEnforcementGrants – and the deadline is 5 p.m. Aug. 18. Grant recipients will be notified Aug. 31.

Trains and toys

CANFIELD

The Canfield Train & Toy Show is having its inaugural show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23 at Canfield Fairgrounds.

Admission is $5 for adults and free for children under 12.

More than 150 tables are expected; vendors are asked to get their requests in as soon as possible. For information and vendor requests, call Elwood Woolman at 330-651-1042.

The show includes new and old trains, parts, repair manuals, price guides, books, train videos, model building supplies, and kits; and Lionel, American Flyer, MTH, Williams, Weaver, LGB, O, S, HO, N, Z & large scale trains and toys of all types, old or new.

Program finale

WARREN

As the sixth annual Summer Enrichment Program comes to a close, Inspiring Minds will celebrate the program’s 300 students and their summer accomplishments with a finale event beginning at 1 p.m. todaywith an awards ceremony starting at 1:45 p.m. at Warren G. Harding High School, 860 Elm Road NE.

During the free six-week program students in third to 12th grades participated in continuing education to prevent summer learning loss, art, sports, swimming lessons, community service, college visits, industry tours, cooking lessons, field trips and more.

In attendance at the event will be parents, community supporters and committed partners including Mayor Doug Franklin, Warren City Community Development and others.
