Notre Dame College golfer Alexa Tringhese, a graduate of Columbiana High School, recently was named to the Women’s Golf Coaches’ Association All-American Scholar team.

Tringhese, a sophomore, was one of 952 female golfers honored. The criteria for selection are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum GPA is 3.50.

Tringhese was the lone representative from the Mountain East Conference to make the team. She made the Dean’s List for the fall semester and the President’s List for the spring with a perfect 4.0 to become eligible for the honor.

“I’m very happy and honored for being acknowledged for my academic success,” Tringhese said. “I take my school work just as serious as I do playing golf and want all other young females to know both are possible with hard work and dedication.”

Tringhese was a standout golfer at Columbiana High School, where she was the No. 1 golfer on the team all four years in high school. She still holds every school record.

Despite those accolades, she said college has brought on a different challenge.

“College competition is more intense along with the coaching being more hands on,” Tringhese said. “I take it more seriously now mostly because I feel I have to prove my scholarship was earned and deserved.”

Her coach, Colleen Groomes, praised her hard work and dedication.

“I am very proud of Alexa,” Groomes said. “Alexa is a dedicated student-athlete and this award is a testament to her hard work and commitment both on and off the course.”

Notre Dame College will begin its women’s golf season on Sept. 4 against Glade Springs Intercollegiate.

The WGCA has more than 600 members and was founded in 1983. The goal of the organization is to educate, promote and recognize its members and student-athletes.
