Taylor’s HR lifts Scrappers over Renegades

FISHKILL, N.Y.
Samad Taylor hit a two-run home run and added a double as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers topped the Hudson Valley Renegades 5-2 on Sunday in New York-Penn League action.
Mahoning Valley went up 4-0 in the fifth after Taylor hit a two-run home run.
After the Scrappers (15-11) added a run in the seventh on a double by Ernie Clement, the Renegades (9-16) cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Taylor Walls hit a sacrifice fly and Matt Eureste scored on an error.
Elijah Morgan (2-0) got the win with three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Hudson Valley starter Austin Franklin (1-1) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game. Cesar Ventura recorded his second save of the season.
The five extra-base hits for Mahoning Valley included a season-high four doubles.
For the Renegades, Emilio Gustave singled three times.
The Scrappers return home to Eastwood Field in Niles tonight to begin a series against the Batavia Muckdogs.
The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
