Clement RBI single keys Scrappers win

FISHKILL, N.Y.

Ernie Clement hit a run-scoring single in the seventh inning, leading the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to a 6-2 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades on Saturday.

The single by Clement started the scoring in a three-run inning and tied the game 2-2. Later in the inning, Mahoning Valley took the lead when Clement scored on a fielder’s choice and then added to it when Oscar Gonzalez hit an RBI single.

The Scrappers later tacked on two runs in the eighth when Austen Wade hit an RBI single and Samad Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to secure the victory.

Kyle Nelson (1-0) got the win in relief while Eduard Rosillo (0-2) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game.

The victory snaps the Scrappers’ four-game losing streak in road games.

The Renegades and Scrappers play again today. Monday, the Scrappers open a three-game homestand against the Batavia Muckdogs.
