New ideas sought for fireworks fest

NEW CASTLE, PA .

Visit Lawrence County is accepting applications from organizations interested in remaking the Fireworks Festival for 2018. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. Aug. 11. The selected organization will be announced Aug. 18. Applications are available at the Visit Lawrence County Welcome Center, 229 S. Jefferson St.

Janet Falotico, executive director of Visit Lawrence County, said the agency hopes to find a group that will build an even better festival for the Fireworks Capital of America. Meetings to understand the endeavor can be scheduled through July 28; call 724-654-8408.

Stuntman dies on ‘Walking Dead’ set

ATLANTA

A coroner says a stuntman for “The Walking Dead” has died from injuries suffered in a fall on the Georgia set of the hit television show. Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk confirmed Friday that 33-year-old John Bernecker died about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at an Atlanta hospital. Bernecker fell earlier Wednesday on the show’s set in Senoia, about 35 miles south of Atlanta.
