A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

July 7

Criminal damaging: Police received complaints that mailboxes and a street sign had been damaged on New Castle Road.

July 10

Trespassing: A man told officers someone had trespassed on his property in the 8300 block of Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road.

Breaking and entering: Someone forcibly entered via a side window a concession stand at Poland Seminary High School, 3199 Dobbins Road.

July 11

Theft: A 17-year-old Poland boy reported a wallet and $200 stolen while he was in the 3100 block of Dobbins Road.

BOARDMAN

July 7

Arrest: Authorities responded to information about a wanted person at a Boardman-Poland Road store, where they took into custody Brett J. Young, 30, of West North Avenue, East Palestine, who was wanted on multiple warrants charging him with eight counts of theft and one of robbery. Young, who also was wanted on a Columbiana County warrant, was accused in a series of recent shoplifting incidents in which merchandise was stolen from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road; Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.; Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road; Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, 385 Boardman-Poland Road; Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd.; and Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A wallet and other items were removed from an unlocked sport utility vehicle in the 3900 block of Hopkins Road.

Theft: A man reportedly stole $258 worth of property that included a wireless speaker and charger from Walmart.

Arrest: Police received a tip regarding a wanted person at a South Avenue car dealership, then arrested Lewis G. Valentino Jr., 50, of Leighton Avenue, Boardman, who was wanted on warrants charging him with identity theft, obstructing official business and theft. In mid-May, a Warren man was informed that he faced a theft charge related to a shoplifting situation at Giant Eagle before police conducted research and discovered Valentino had used the family member’s identity during the arrest, a report showed.

Criminal mischief: A Clifton Drive couple alleged a neighbor came to their driveway and taunted their dog, then, after being told several times to leave, threw a cup of coffee on a portion of their vinyl siding, leaving a large stain.

Theft: A Cook Avenue man noticed a push mower had been removed from his carport and that a credit card was missing from his vehicle.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole two pairs of sunglasses and a tank top from Kohl’s.

Fraud: A loss-prevention official with Kohl’s reported the Pennsylvania State Police contacted him about a fraudulent credit card that had been opened in late June and used to make $687 worth of purchases. The PSP further stated a woman had filed a report saying that someone without authorization had used her identity to open the account.

Theft/criminal damaging: Someone in the 1100 block of Shadeland Drive smashed a vehicle’s rear window with a brick, then took an iPhone and charger as well as a pack of cigarettes.

Theft: A woman noticed a $300 lawn mower missing from her Thalia Avenue residence.

Trespassing: Police responded to a complaint of someone asking others for money at Boardman Plaza before charging Arnold D. Harding, 59, with criminal trespassing. Harding, of East Midlothian Boulevard, Youngstown, was at the plaza in violation of a November 2016 trespassing warning, a report showed.

Criminal mischief: Someone entered a car in the 4500 block of Euclid Boulevard before the owner found various items strewn about, though nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Theft: A man reportedly took a $17 bottle of bourbon from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road resulted in the arrest of Cedrina A. Toley, 35, on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The Pittsburgh woman had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe in a cigarette pack, police alleged.

Arrest: Officers responded to a fight on Mathews Road, where they took Gary A. White of Mathews, Boardman, into custody. White, 26, was wanted on a Columbiana County warrant charging failure to appear in court.

July 8

Arrest: After pulling him over on Midlothian Boulevard, authorities took into custody Cevon T.E. Drayton-McMullen, 23, of Hillman Way, Boardman. He was wanted on a Youngstown Municipal Court bench warrant charging failure to comply.

Assault: A Southern Boulevard man alleged a friend twice punched his face during an argument.

Auto theft: A 2010 Lincoln vehicle was stolen in the 4100 block of Arden Boulevard.

Theft: A worker with a Market Street restaurant discovered her purse was missing from her car.

Harassment: A Washington Boulevard man said he received such text messages from someone claiming to have hacked into two cellphone accounts.

Arrests: Campbell police handed to Boardman authorities Justin L. Fry-Starrett, 24, of Whipple Avenue, Campbell, along with Erin M. Prozy, 30, same address, on charges of inducing panic, aggravated trespassing and obstructing official business. The charges stem from a July 5 incident in which police responded to a possible domestic situation and kidnapping at a South Avenue apartment before Prozy reportedly denied having been assaulted or forced into a vehicle against her will, a report stated.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 5500 block of West Boulevard through a rear door. Stolen was a $300 Xbox game system.

Criminal damaging: A Sheridan Road man alleged a neighbor drove through and damaged a portion of his backyard.

July 9

Arrest: Police responded to a 911 hang-up call that originated on Meadowbrook Avenue before arresting R.J. L. Scott, 35, of Stadler Avenue, Boardman, who was wanted on a Beaver Township warrant charging fraud.

Menacing: A Girard woman alleged her former boyfriend followed her and a friend on U.S. Route 224 and attempted to run them off the road.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole three dresses valued at $150 from The Avenue, a clothing store at 511 Boardman-Canfield Road, before leaving in a maroon van.

Burglary: A woman alleged a family member took $300 from a bedroom at her Woodview Avenue home.

Criminal damaging: A Southern Boulevard man noticed someone had tossed two bricks and broke a garage window. Also damaged was a toolbox in the garage.

Harassment: A township woman said her former boyfriend has made repeated calls to her residence and posted unwanted messages on her Facebook account.

Theft: A 22-inch bicycle and related accessories were stolen in the 3800 block of Whipporwill Lane.

Domestic violence: R.J. L. Scott, 35, of Stadler Avenue, Boardman, faced four domestic-violence counts after his former girlfriend alleged he has made continual unwanted contact with her, including leaving 50 to 60 such text messages. Scott also called the accuser’s daughter in a fit of rage, then threatened to kill everyone in the residence, a report stated.

Theft: Police charged Brittany C. Rusnak of Bel Aire Lane, Poland, with intentionally failing to scan $92 worth of groceries while at Walmart. Rusnak, 22, also was wanted on a theft warrant, related to a June shoplifting situation at Ulta Beauty, 403 Boardman-Poland Road.

July 10

Assault/menacing: A clerk with a Market Street motel told authorities a man threw a cup of coffee in his face and slapped him after having become upset about room repairs. Also, the tenant’s daughter reportedly called and threatened to shoot the worker, he further reported.

Theft: Durrell J. Ford, 30, of Fruit Avenue, Farrell, Pa., was charged with theft and possession of criminal tools after a $205 pair of men’s shorts was stolen from Kohl’s. Ford also used a pair of vice grips to cut the security devices, a report said.

Menacing: A worker with a McClurg Road business told police a man who refused several times to leave threatened to beat him up before finally leaving.

Harassment: A Scotland Avenue man said he’s received a series of unwanted calls from an unknown number.

Theft: A man in his mid-30s reportedly stole a cellphone charger from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Theft: A guest reportedly left Hampton Inn, 7395 Tiffany Blvd., and failed to pay $352 for two nights of lodging.

Theft/vandalism: A supervisor with a Dayton tree company told police four trucks sustained damage in the 20 block of Ewing Road and that several chain saws and other items were taken from them.

Theft by deception: A driver for Independent Taxi in Youngstown reportedly took a woman to a Tiffany Boulevard motel, even though she didn’t have the $25 fare but assured the driver she would get a man she knows at the motel to pay it. When police contacted the man, however, he claimed he didn’t have the money. No charges were filed at the time of the report, though.

July 11

Theft: A woman reportedly left Buffalo Wild Wings in Southern Park Mall and failed to make good on a promise to pay her $76.53 food bill.

Theft: A Berlin Center man reported a 14-foot, $7,000 trailer stolen from a parking lot in the 200 block of DeBartolo Place.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole $103 worth of cleaning supplies from Walmart.

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 4000 block of South Avenue led to the arrest of Thomas P. Kennedy, 22, of Terraview Drive, Boardman, and John M. Dillon, 23, of Orlo Lane, Boardman, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments when, police alleged, a bag containing 15 amphetamines, a bag of suspected marijuana and a digital scale were found. Dillon also was wanted on a felony warrant from Niles.

Theft: Stacey E. Huff, 46, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, was charged in the theft of $22 worth of groceries from Marc’s, 7121 Tiffany Blvd.

Theft/harassment: A Devonshire Drive woman told police her cellphone had been stolen, then used as a means to harass her.

Identity fraud: A Youngstown woman found out her home phone number and address had been given to several township auto dealerships without permission for online applications to buy cars.

Theft: A Poland woman discovered her $89,000 wedding ring missing while she was at a South Avenue big-box store.

Stolen property: Authorities charged Clarissa J. Friend, 23, of Willard Avenue, Warren, with theft as well as possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after 19 pieces of athletic apparel valued at $11,172 were stolen from Kohl’s and when, police alleged, a suspected crack-cocaine pipe and needles were found in the vehicle. Charged with receiving stolen property were Nasya A. Smith, 22, of Bedford, Ohio, and Leasia S. Allen, 24, of Laird Avenue, Warren.

Theft: A man reportedly took two bottled drinks from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Theft: A woman alleged her former boyfriend stole 20 dish and bath towels from her Claybourne Avenue residence.

Harassment: An Oakley Avenue man reported an Instagram page had been set up in his daughter’s name without authorization, and that it contained derogatory statements about her.

Theft: Someone tampered with and removed an undisclosed sum of money from a coin machine at Splash & Shine Auto Bath, 5010 Youngstown-Poland Road.

Theft: Tricia L. Willis, 24, of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, surrendered on a theft charge after $58 worth of merchandise had been stolen July 7 from Kohl’s.

July 12

Arrest: Officers responding to an argument at a Washington Boulevard apartment took into custody Derrick N. Franklin, 21, who listed addresses on Washington Boulevard in Boardman and Compass West Drive in Austintown, upon discovering Franklin was wanted on an Austintown warrant charging unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Attempted breaking and entering: A neighbor reportedly saw a man trying to enter a vacant home in the 4200 block of Chester Drive. After being confronted, the would-be burglar walked away carrying a duffel bag.
