Insurer offers coverage for Uber, Lyft drivers

GIRARD

A Girard-based insurance agency has started offering insurance plans to help rideshare drivers protect themselves while they work.

According to a news statement, Gibson Insurance Agency is offering “Grange Ridesharing Gap Coverage” to keep drivers insured through the breaks in coverage offered by their employers.

Rideshare drivers are fully insured by Uber or Lyft once they’ve accepted a fare and throughout the ride. Before accepting a fare, however, drivers are left with minimal coverage, according to the statement.

Drivers who want more information or to purchase coverage should seek more information through Gibson or their current insurance providers.

Valley auto sales up

June new and used auto sales in the Mahoning Valley were up by 631 to 5,300 from 4,669 reported last June. For the year, new and used auto sales are up by 3,535 to 30,174 from 26,639 reported from last year, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

Chevy app available on Apple Watch

Chevrolet is giving its owners another option to use their myChevrolet app by making it available on Apple Watch.

General Motors announced this week Chevrolet owners can now remote start and stop their vehicles, lock and unlock the doors, activate and cancel the horn and lights, locate their vehicles and receive walking directions to where it is parked through their myChevrolet app on Apple Watch.

Ohio sees increase in business entities

COLUMBUS

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted announced 9,834 new entities filed to do business in Ohio during June, an increase of 1,354 when compared to the same month in 2016.

To date, 63,179 new entities have filed to do business in Ohio this year. With the creation of Ohio Business Central, the online business filing site founded by Husted in 2013, the number of new business filings continues to climb.

Today, three out of every four new entities are started online. Since Ohio Business Central’s launch, the secretary of state’s office has processed more than 264,282 online filings.

June marked 20 months since Husted reduced the cost of starting and maintaining a business in the Buckeye State by 21 percent. This change has saved Ohio businesses more than $4.3 million to date, according to a secretary of state news release.
