Rasheda Lawrence, 24, of Youngstown pleaded not guilty at her first appearance Thursday in Mahoning County Area Court.
Township police arrested her Tuesday evening at the Walmart store on Doral Drive for leaving her 5-month-old baby in the car for 50 minutes, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
Lawrence told police she always takes the baby into stores with her, but it was pouring down rain and the baby was sleeping. According to the report, when police got to the baby he was sweating and crying. Police say the baby is OK and staying with a grandparent.
If Lawrence is found guilty of child endangering, she could face a $1,000 fine and up to 6 months in jail.
Meeting on city pool

A public meeting hosted by the Niles Park and Recreation Committee to discuss the city pool’s status and efforts to save it will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at American Legion Hall, 1029 N. Main St. State Rep. Sean O’Brien of Bazetta, D-32nd, is the featured guest.
Food drive

The Mahoning County Board of Development Disabilities is hosting a food drive from Monday to next Friday to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.
Collection boxes will be at all MCBDD facilities from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week.
The event is part of the Always There Week of Service, which showcases the important role that county boards have played in the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families.
Rabies vaccines offered
ELLSWORTH
Pet owners have the opportunity to vaccinate their pets against rabies at a clinic offered by the Mahoning County District Board of Health this weekend.
The clinic will run from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ellsworth Township Maintenance Building, 6034 South Salem-Warren Road.
The vaccinations cost $8. In Mahoning County, a rabies vaccination is required for all dogs, cats and ferrets older than 3 months.
