YURICH TRIAL | Court in recess until 1:15 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The trial of Dr. Joseph Yurich is in recess until 1:15 p.m.

The prosecution is in the process of questioning witnesses who carried out the investigation into the boat crash and handled or processed physical evidence.

Earlier, prosecutors played a 911 call Yurich's wife made to the Portage County Sherriff's Department the night of a fatal Berlin Reservoir boat crash in 2015.

"My husband hit a boat on his way home, and I want to tell the cops," she said. "He hit a fishing boat. I don't know if anyone else was injured."

Dr. Yurich, 38, of Poland, faces several charges stemming from that May 9, 2015 crash that left one man injured and another man dead.

The call came in at 1:34 a.m. The accident occurred just after midnight.

Lt. Gregory Johnson, chief of detectives for the Portage County Sherriff, responded to the call.

Dr. Yurich told Johnson he thought he hit a rock and he didn't stop. He also told the deputy sheriff he had been drinking alcohol.

"He said he had a couple beers and he said he had some beers," Johnson testified. "I never got an exact number."

Dr. Yurich became very emotional when Johnson told him someone had died in the crash, Johnson said.
