Police find gun in search of suspicious car

YOUNGSTOWN

Police found a .40-caliber handgun just after midnight after investigating a call of a suspicious car.

Reports said officers were told to look out for a car driven by Eryck Allen of Dennick Avenue because it was involved in a recent shooting. Police spotted it about 12:05 a.m. at an East Midlothian Boulevard gas station and Allen was putting air in the tires.

Reports said Allen gave police permission to search the car and they found the gun in the center console. Allen was taken to the Mahoning County jail on a charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and was later charged with possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence after police found a bag of marijuana in the cruiser Allen was placed in.
