A Lordstown man is charged with two counts of felonious assault and operating a vehicle while intoxicated Sunday after police said he tried to run a vehicle off the road multiple times.
Police responded to a complaint late Sunday and found Bryan Calai, 35, of Lyntz Townline Road, intoxicated at Sheetz gas station on Mahoning Avenue.
Calai reportedly approached an officer upon their arrival at Sheetz and stated, “I am drunk.”
After a verbal exchange with a couple at Buffalo Wild Wings, at 6000 Mahoning Ave., Calai reportedly followed them in a truck, repeatedly cutting off the couple’s vehicle. Calai reportedly cut their vehicle off at the intersection of Wilcox Road and Mahoning Avenue and got out of his vehicle, and the couple put their vehicle in reverse and drove around Calai. Calai reportedly returned to his vehicle and continued to follow them.
Calai reportedly told officers: “I’m old school. When a man exchanges words with another man, he was two options: fight, or get their teeth kicked in.”
Officers reportedly determined from witness statements and surveillance footage Calai chased the couple on roadways and circled the Sheetz parking lot in his vehicle.
Calai is in the Mahoning County jail on a $25,250 bond.
