Crosscutters defeat Scrappers

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.

Nick Maton singled three times as the Williamsport Crosscutters defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 6-1 on Saturday.

Williamsport started the scoring in the first inning when Jhailyn Ortiz hit a two-run double.

Mahoning Valley answered in the next half-inning when Jason Rodriguez hit an RBI single, bringing home Nolan Jones to get within one.

The Crosscutters (10-9) later added one run in the second and third innings and two in the fifth to secure the victory.

Jhon Nunez (1-1) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Mahoning Valley starter Felix Tati (1-2) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game.

Gustavo Armas pitched four scoreless innings for his first save of the season.

Austin Wade and Oscar Gonzalez led the Scrappers (10-9) with two hits each.
