Utah man charged in fatal I-76 crash

A Utah truck driver was charged Friday with vehicular homicide after a multiple-vehicle crash June 29 on Interstate 76 that killed a man and injured three others.

Robert Brock, 47, is charged with causing the accident that killed 53-year-old Mark Schaas of New Castle, Pa.

Brock is accused of driving a tractor-trailer that struck the rear of another tractor-trailer, setting off a chain-reaction crash that led to Schaas’ death.

Judge mulls case against boy, 15

YOUNGSTOWN

Judge Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County Juvenile Court has found probable cause to move forward with charges against a 15-year-old city boy accused of attempted murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault, said 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

The court is in the process of determining if Jhamiere Mann Clarke should be put on trial as an adult. He is accused of the February attack on 57-year-old Ellen Zban.

Zban was shot in the eye, bicep and shoulder as she pulled into the driveway of her Powersdale Avenue home.

The teen is scheduled for another hearing in juvenile court Aug. 24.

Robbery at store

BOARDMAN

A robbery was reported at Home Depot on Southern Boulevard, according to a police report filed Thursday.

A store employee told police a man attempted to leave the store Tuesday with $289 worth of merchandise. When a cashier asked to see a receipt, the man purportedly pushed the cashier to the ground and fled.

The store caught the man on camera, and a possible suspect was identified, according to the report.

Suspected drug OD prompts charge

AUSTINTOWN

Police charged a man with inducing panic after a suspected overdose.

Officers responded to a traffic accident early Thursday and found William Britton, 38, of Austintown, semiconscious behind the wheel of the vehicle.

Paramedics administered Narcan to revive Britton. He refused to answer questions other than to tell police he used heroin.

Officers reportedly found no evidence of drug use in the vehicle.

Police issued a warrant for Britton’s arrest on a charge of inducing panic. He previously was charged with inducing panic by Austintown police in May.

Power outage

LIBERTY

More than 1,000 people lost power for a few hours Friday afternoon due to downed wires. Police believe the wires came down after tractor-trailer struck a utility pole about 1 p.m. at Green Acres Drive near Colonial and Northgate Drives in Liberty Township.

After several hours, FirstEnergy restored power to more than 500 customers in Liberty and more than 500 customers in Girard.

Reservists training

YOUNGSTOWN

From 8 a.m. to noon today, a local regiment from the Army Reserves will be conducting unit-movement training in Mill Creek Park. The reservists will be training in areas near Lake Glacier and the Lily Pond.
