YOUNGSTOWN

City leaders feted Youngstown City Schools CEO Krish Mohip’s first-year’s accomplishments during a Thursday morning news conference at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.

“I think this year has been great,” said Penny Wells, Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past director. “There’s been a lot of change, and change sometimes is hard. It’s human nature – people don’t like change. But [Mohip] has brought about a number of good things this year.”

Some of those good things include: the afterschool program, all-day preschool, summer school, the hiring of a leadership team and improving the third grade reading level.

Mohip said those changes are among many, both happening currently and to come.

“I believe in public education,” Mohip said. “I’m here to reinvest in our teachers and reinvest in the leadership and build something that is sustainable.”

Mohip’s year anniversary was June 29.
