Smoke detectors alerted the two people in the home at 830 Boyd Street Northeast to a 7:23 a.m. fire Thursday, allowing them and their three dogs to escape unharmed. One cat died in the fire, however. The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage and may have started in the bathroom of the one-story home, said Steve Smoot, Brookfield firefighter/paramedic.

Boil advisory

Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer’s Office issued a boil advisory for several customers due to a water main break in the Trumbull County Southeast Public Water System that is being repaired.

Once water service has been restored, customers who live on these streets are advised to boil their water for at least 3 to 5 minutes for consumption until further notice: Connelly, Catherine, Madeline, Hubbard Thomas Road, Hubbard Sharon Road, McDowell, Richardson, Chestnut Ridge Road, Price, Stiver and Van Ness.

Police probe crash

GIRARD

First-responders transported a woman to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after a car crash late Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 2:45 p.m. on U.S. Route 422. Police are investigating.

There were no other details at press time Thursday night.

Misdemeanor charge

WARREN

Tamel C. Hall, 26, of Atlantic Street Northeast was arraigned Thursday in Warren Municipal Court on misdemeanor gross sexual imposition after a girl, 15, said Hall assaulted her at an unspecified time.

He pleaded not guilty.

Fundraiser benefit

YOUNGSTOWN

Members of Cardinal Mooney High School’s Interact Club and Hospitality Team are hosting a fundraiser benefit for its sister school, the Knysna Montessori School located in Knysna, South Africa, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Cassese’s MVR, 410 N. Walnut St.

The cost is $10, which includes appetizers, bucket auction and 50/50 raffle.
