June 11 marked the seventh annual Centered: Slightly Off-Center senior citizen art show at the Davis Family YMCA in Boardman.

This year’s show included more than 60 resident artists from Antonine Villages, Briarfield at Ashley Circle, the Commons at Greenbriar, Countryside at the Elmwoods, the Inn at Christine Valley, the Inn at Glenellen, the Inn at Ironwood and the Inn at Poland Way.

The artists and guests enjoyed an afternoon of music by the Classical Strings in a venue adorned with flowers courtesy of Anguilli’s Farm Market. Refreshments were provided by Giant Eagle and Rulli Brothers. More than $500 in prizes was awarded to three artists from each center, plus eight overall awards thanks to an annual donation by Denise DeBartolo York.

Ron Byers, of Briarfield at Ashley Circle, won Best of Show for his painting of a prancing horse. The juror, Kristina Rule, also honored Claudette Cook of Briarfield at Ashley Circle, Maxine Martin of Countryside at the Elmwoods, Dorothie Wiley of the Inn at Glenellen, Rose Thomae of Briarfield at Ashley Circle, Lois Swindler of the Inn at Ironwod, Teresa Hickson of Briarfield Ashley Circle and June Sharish of the Inn at Glenellen for exceptional work.

Special recognition was given to the 12 painters at Ashley Circle, and their activities advisors, Anna Creque and Khalilah Jordan for their work on a painted sunflower quilt in the style of van Gogh.

The art show will hang in the YMCA lobby until July 3.
