YOUNGSTOWN

A man arrested on his eighth charge of operating a vehicle impaired was arraigned Wednesday in municipal court.

Judge Robert Milich set bond at $20,000 for Brian Schlosser, 44, and also ordered house arrest should he be able to post bond.

Schlosser was arrested about 11:25 p.m. Monday at Powers Way and Belden Avenue on the South Side after police pulled him over for making two illegal turns.

Reports said Schlosser told a trooper he had nothing to drink, but the trooper said in his report Schlosser’s eyes appeared to be bloodshot and he smelled of alcohol.

Schlosser took a field-sobriety test and flunked it, reports said.

Reports said he agreed to a breath test and registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.092. In Ohio, someone is considered to be driving drunk if their BAC is 0.08 or higher.

Schlosser has previous OVI convictions in 1994, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012, said Assistant City Prosecutor Kathy Thompson.

Because Monday’s arrest is his sixth OVI offense within a 20-year period, the charge he was arraigned on is a felony.

Schlosser was one of three people charged in Youngstown over the July Fourth holiday by state troopers with OVI.

One of those people also received the specification for having a BAC that exceeded 0.17.

From Friday afternoon until midnight Tuesday, court records show troopers charged 16 people in Youngstown with OVI. Schlosser is the only one of those people facing felony OVI charges.
