Facing drug charges

Nicole Cruse, 45, of Youngstown was arrested on charges of drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop about 4 a.m. Wednesday on South Avenue.

Police purportedly found a crack pipe in Cruse’s wallet and a container with white powder in her purse.

After Cruse was taken to the police station for booking, an officer reportedly found suspected cocaine in the back seat that Cruse later admitted was crack cocaine that she had thrown on the floor of the cruiser. She also reportedly admitted she had another crack pipe concealed near her genital area, according to a police report.

Cruse is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court today.

Searching for car

Township police officers on Wednesday were looking for a car they believe was involved in a kidnapping, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, reported.

Police were looking for a black Hyundai with license number GVP6098. The Ohio State Highway Patrol also was on the lookout for the vehicle.

The incident was reported on South Avenue on Wednesday morning. A man reportedly was seen forcing a woman and two children into the car, WFMJ reported.

Break-in probed

Township police are investigating a break-in at a U.S. Route 224 business. According to a report, police were sent to Papa John’s, 1307 Boardman-Poland Road, early Monday after an alarm went off.

Police found the glass front door had been smashed and two cash- register drawers had been pulled out. About $300 was taken, according to the report. Nothing else was reported missing.

Pleading not guilty

YOUNGSTOWN

Konstantinos Mouzos, who was indicted on two counts of illegal voting, pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Mouzos, 69, of Austintown, is accused of voting in the March 15 primary and Nov. 6 general election last year despite not being an American citizen. Illegal voting is a felony that can result in six to 12 months in prison. A trial has been set for Sept. 11.

Domestic violence

Ramon Campbell, 39, of Aliquippa, Pa., is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court today for arraignment on charges of domestic violence and felonious assault that stem from an incident reported Friday.

Witnesses told police they saw Campbell drive off the roadway on Market Street and strike a woman with his vehicle, “knocking her off her feet and throwing her approximately 10 feet away.”

The witnesses told police they then saw Campbell get out of the vehicle, grab the woman and drag her back into the vehicle, then leave the scene on foot. Both the woman and Campbell denied that version of events, but police said in a report that they found sufficient evidence to charge him.

Honoring Mohip

YOUNGSTOWN

The City of Youth Leadership Council and other organizations and individuals supporting CEO Krish Mohip will mark his first-year accomplishments at a news conference at 10 a.m. today in the Fellowship Hall in the basement of First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.

Mohip began his first day as CEO of the Youngstown City School District on June 29, 2016.
