Fire at day-care in city is ruled arson

A fire at a South Avenue day- care center early Tuesday morning has been ruled an arson.
Youngstown Fire Department workers were called out to Nana’s Nest Child Care Center, 2113 South Ave., about 6:45 a.m., according to department officials. The call came in because an alarm was activated, then firefighters discovered smoke when they arrived.
The department’s arson investigator ruled the fire an arson. No one was injured in the fire.
Patrol cites alcohol as factor in Vienna crash
VIENNA
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that alcohol was a factor in an accident on state Route 82 earlier Tuesday.
A man was cited after the incident that Vienna police responded to shortly before 2:30 p.m. The accident occurred west of Niles-Vienna Road.
A driver reportedly clipped another vehicle, then crashed his vehicle and attempted to flee from police, OSHP reported. His name has not yet been released. No major injuries were reported.
Frack Free: Revoke injection-well permits
YOUNGSTOWN
Several environmental groups, including Youngstown-based Frackfree America National Coalition, on Tuesday released an open letter urging officials to revoke injection-well drilling permits for a site in Brookfield.
Frackfree, along with Buckeye Environmental Coalition and the Center for Health, Environment and Justice sent the letter to Gov. John Kasich, the head of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and Highland Field Services, the company planning to drill the wells.
The letter, citing concerns about the potential for earthquakes caused by fracking, urged officials to revoke permits that ODNR issued June 21. The groups also requested a public meeting in Brookfield.
5-day road closing
NEW MIDDLETOWN
From July 10-14, state Route 170 just north of state Route 630 will be closed for a culvert replacement, the Ohio Department of Transportation has announced. The detour will be state Route 617 to state Route 165 to state Route 626 to state Route 7 to U.S. Route 224.
60-day road closing
East FAIRFIELD
State Route 517 will be closed next month for a bridge replacement project west of here, the Ohio Department of Transportation has announced.
Starting July 12, state Route 517 will be closed for 60 days two miles west of state Route 7, while Marucci & Gaffney Excavating Co. of Youngstown replaces a bridge over Little Bull Creek.
Traffic will be detoured on state Route 164 south to U.S. Route 30, east to state Route 154, east to state Route 7 north and back to state Route 517, and in reverse. This $558,000 project is to be completed Sept. 10.
