Weathersfield trustee joins judicial race
WARREN
Atty. Gil Blair, a Weathersfield Township trustee for six years, has joined two others in announcing his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Niles Municipal Court judge.
Blair, a 1988 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and 20-year Weathersfield resident, serves as a courtroom prosecutor and assistant law director for the city of Warren. He also serves as housing court prosecutor in Warren Municipal Court.
If elected, Blair plans to implement procedures to address the growing opiate epidemic and efficiently handle housing, zoning and health-related cases, he said in a news release.
The current judge, Judge Thomas Townley, is not seeking re-election.
Others announcing their candidacy earlier were Christopher Shaker and Terry Swauger.
GTSWD to select new director
WARREN
The six commissioners from Geauga and Trumbull counties will meet at 1 p.m. today at the Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste District offices on Enterprise Drive to select a new director.
The district’s hiring committee has given the commissioners three finalists to interview today before making a choice.
They are: Vicki Vesel of Chardon, a health, safety and environmental contractor; Steve Lucivjansky of Canfield, operations manager at Youngstown State University since November 2014; and Kenneth Radtke Jr. of Chesterland, Geauga County, president of Environmental Guidance Inc. since 1995 and a Chester Township trustee since 2011.
All three have at least a bachelor’s degree.
Assault at Club Pandora
AUSTINTOWN
Police are investigating a reported assault that took place in Club Pandora at 169 S. Four Mile Run Road.
A woman told police she entered the nightclub and walked toward the bar. Another woman called out her name and punched her in the face when she turned around. The victim said she had previously had issues with the woman.
The responding officer observed a cut on the victim’s upper lip and a broken fingernail.
Road closure for cleanup in Lowellville
LOWELLVILLE
State Route 289 in Lowellville and Struthers will be closed during the day as the Ohio Department of Transportation works with local crews to clear excess trees from the right of way.
The road will be closed from about 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day concluding Feb. 6, weather-permitting.
Stambaugh Charter Academy open house
YOUNGSTOWN
Stambaugh Charter Academy, 2420 Donald Ave., will host an information meeting and open house for interested parents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Families will have the opportunity to take a tour, meet the staff and learn about the school’s education benefits.
Trumbull planning meeting scheduled
HUBBARD
The Trumbull County Planning Commission will host a meeting at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday at the Hubbard Middle School cafeteria, 250 Hall Avenue SE. The public will have the opportunity to offer input on the Hubbard Township comprehensive plan.
