Historical society to open police exhibit

Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host an opening ceremony at 5 p.m. Feb. 10 for its new exhibit “Calling All Cars: A History of the Youngstown Police Department” at the Tyler History Center, 325 W Federal St.

Staff are working with a committee of current and retired police personnel to accurately tell the story of law enforcement in the city, which began in the early 19th century.

The reception will cost $10 for MVHS members and $12 for guests. Tickets include light refreshments. The exhibit will be open to the public Feb. 11. Reservations must be made by Friday by calling the center at 330-743-2589.

Current and retired police personnel and their families are invited to attend the reception and the opening weekend for free. The society is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for children, and includes a same-day visit to the Arms Family Museum. For information visit www.mahoninghistory.org.
