British actor John Hurt, 'The Elephant Man,' dies at 77

Several media outlets and British newspapers are reporting that John Hurt, the British actor of stage and screen who received an Academy Award nomination for "Midnight Express" and was memorable in "Alien," three Harry Potter films and "Doctor Who," died today at 77.

Hurt's most acclaimed role was that of the deformed John Merrick in David Lynch’s "The Elephant Man."
