Salem Athletic Hall of Fame accepting nominations

Salem High School Athletic Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for its class of 2017 until Feb. 5. Nominations are open to athletes, coaches, teams and community contributors.

Athletes must have been an outstanding performer or record holder while representing Salem High School and must have graduated at least 10 years prior to nomination.

Coaches must have achieved a significant coaching accomplishment during their tenure, and must have stopped coaching at the high school at least five years prior to nomination.

Teams will not be considered until 10 years after the last member has graduated from high school, and the team must have won a conference championship or an equivalent if no conference existed.

Contributors must have had a positive impact on the high school athletics program, either by contributing time or money.

Time requirements for athletes, coaches and teams may be waived by a majority vote in the case of a catastrophic event or life-threatening emergency.

The Joe Kelley Spirit of Salem award will recognize the contributions of an individual or individuals to an athletic program. Recipient(s) will be included in the hall of fame.

Nominations are accepted all year, but nominations received after Feb. 5 will be considered for the class of 2018. Nominees not voted into the hall of fame will automatically be considered for future elections.

The message or letter must include the name of the nominee, the year he or she graduated, the team and sport they are being nominated for, the year(s) they participated at the high school, and any information to support the nomination.

The Class of 2017 will be announced in May, and the induction dinner and ceremony will take place Aug. 24.
