OT pay limited

NILES

Council approved the final reading of an ordinance Wednesday that will limit overtime pay for nonunion positions to 1.5 times the hourly rate. Council’s action rescinds overtime policies instituted by former Mayor Ralph Infante in which some supervisors were paid higher overtime rates than others.

On Monday, council voted to require city retirees who are rehired to pay 100 percent of their medical insurance premiums. Under Infante, the city was paying a portion of the premiums for some of the rehires.

Infante was indicted last November on more than 50 counts, including bribery and theft in office. State auditors had advised the city to change those policies in the wake of the investigation. Council members have indicated there may be other changes coming.
