Traffic stop leads to drug-related charges

BOARDMAN

Police arrested a Youngstown man and woman on drug-related charges at 1 a.m. Monday.

According to a report, police initiated a traffic stop on Market Street near Stanton Avenue. In the car were Alfred Thomas, 68, of Delaware Avenue, and Nicole Trimble, 40, of East Evergreen Avenue.

Trimble reportedly appeared intoxicated, and when she provided her identification, it came up as false, police said.

A search of the vehicle and the suspects revealed an open bottle of alcohol, a crack pipe and suspected crack cocaine. They both denied owning the suspected drug, police said.

Trimble is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and possessing an open container of alcohol. Thomas is charged with possession of drugs.

Man jailed after fleeing traffic stop

YOUNGSTOWN

A city man was booked into the Mahoning County jail Tuesday for resisting arrest after reports said he ran from police about 1:45 a.m. after they pulled over a car he was driving in the 600 block of West Boston Avenue.

Reports said officers tried to pull the car over because it only had one operating headlight, and when the car stopped the driver, Stephen Shackelford, 22, of Youngstown, ran away. He was stunned once with an electronic stun weapon but it hit him on the wrist and was not effective, reports said.

Reports said officers had to tackle him in the yard of a nearby South Side home. He refused to allow himself to be handcuffed, and he also had a bag of suspected marijuana in his pockets, reports said.
