Youngstown man charged with resisting arrest

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man was booked into the Mahoning County jail early today for resisting arrest after reports said he ran from police about 1:45 a.m. after they pulled over a car he was driving in the 600 block of West Boston Avenue.

Reports said officers tried to pull the car over because it only had one operating headlight. When the car stopped, the driver, Stephen Shackelford, 22, of Youngstown, ran away. He was stunned once with an electronic stun weapon but it hit him on the wrist and was not effective, reports said.

Reports said officers had to tackle him in the yard of a nearby South Side home. He refused to allow himself to be handcuffed, and he also had a bag of suspected marijuana in his pockets, reports said.
