Choral dinner-show at Canfield High

CANFIELD

Canfield High School’s choral department will present “Blast from the Past!,” a dinner-theater show, Saturday in the school auditorium on Cardinal Drive.

Dinner begins at 6 p.m. and will include food samples from several Canfield establishments, including Inner Circle, White Fire Grill, Inspired Catering from Kravitz, A La Cart Catering, Peaberry’s and Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m., with a program of songs from the ’50s to the ’90s.

Tickets are $20 ($10 for the concert only; $5 for students).

Free jazz concert at Kent-Trumbull

WARREN

The Jason Smith Jazz Quartet will give a free performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Kent State University-Trumbull Campus auditorium (in the classroom/administration building), 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW.

Smith, one of Cleveland’s most versatile trombonists, has performed with Opera Cleveland, the Blossom Festival Band, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, Firelands Symphony and Ashland Symphony. He also has an extensive background in jazz, having performed with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and recorded with Sam River’s Rivbea Orchestra and the Grammy nominated Dan McMillion Groovin’ High Jazz Orchestra.

An instructor at Cleveland State University and the Cleveland Institute of Music, Smith has performed at several European jazz festivals, including Montreux, Switzerland; Umbria, Italy; and Veinne, France. He was a finalist in the Larry Wiehe solo competition.
