East Side man charged with abusing 911

YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested a Sunshine Avenue man Wednesday after reports said he called 911 and told dispatchers there was a homicide at his home.

Police were called about 9:05 p.m. to the home of Franklin Herns, 23, after someone called 911 and said there was a homicide and hung up.

When police arrived, Herns' mother gave them permission to come inside and found Herns underneath a pile of clothes. Reports said police asked dispatchers to call back the number and a phone that Herns had with him was ringing.

Herns was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
