“Hairspray,SDRq directed by C. Austin Hill and Nancy Andersen Wolfgang, at The Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, Youngstown, auditions at 6 p.m. Jan. 27-28. Performances May 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21. If necessary, callbacks will take place Jan. 29. The role of Edna Turnblad already has been cast; all other roles are open. The show requires a diversified, multiracial cast. All auditionees are asked to prepare 32 bars of a ’50s or ’60s rock song (not from the show). An accompanist will be provided. All who audition will be expected to dance, and may be asked to read from the script. The director is asking for people age 15 and up to fill the roles, with the exception of the character “Little Inez,” for which an African-American girl around age 11 is needed.
