2016 Valley home sales increase 2 percent

Home sales in the Mahoning Valley rose 2 percent in 2016 compared with 2015.

Combined, there were 5,661 homes sold in 2016 compared with 5,551 in 2015.

Mahoning County ended 2016 with a slight increase in home sales, according to data released by the Youngstown/Columbiana County Association of Realtors. A total of 2,753 home sales closed in 2016, up from 2015’s total of 2,743. Pending sales in the county were 2,813 in 2016, up from 2,802 in 2015.

The county’s number of new listings dropped by 19.1 percent over the year to 3,614. The average sales price increased 5.9 percent year-over -year to $110,734.

In December alone, the county saw a decrease of 3.2 percent in the number of sales that closed with 214. Pending sales were up 23.6 percent to 220.

Columbiana County ended the year with 845 closed sales, up from 808 made in 2015. Pending sales were also up with 863 made in 2016 compared with 824 in 2015. New listings were down 10.7 percent to 1,275. The average sales price increased 6 percent to $108,211.

In December, closed sales in the county were up 4.3 percent to 72. Pending sales were up 41.5 percent to 75.

Trumbull County also saw an increase in closed sales with 2,063 homes sold in 2016 compared with 2,000 in 2015, according to the Warren Area Board of Realtors.

Pending sales in the county were 2,101 in 2016, up from 2,014 made in 2015. New listings in the county were down 1.3 percent year- over-year to 2,909. The average sales price was up 0.9 percent to $94,949.

In December alone, the county saw a 4.1 percent year-over-year decrease in home sales to 164. Pending sales were up 29.8 percent to 157.
