WARREN

A man, 66, of West Market Street, who was hit by a car Jan. 6 at 949 W. Market St., suffered serious injuries and is in the Veterans Affairs hospital in Cleveland.

Police on Monday issued a news release asking for the public’s help in identifying and finding the driver in the accident, who left the scene without stopping.

A witness said he saw a dark-colored car hit the victim.

A police report says the man was walking his bicycle east on West Market at 5:58 p.m. when he was hit from behind by a car in front of the former Warren Food Market.

A diagram shows the bicycle being found next to the edge of the road with a flashlight on the roadway beside the bicycle. The flashlight was to the centerline-side of the bicycle. A mobile phone and right shoe were found a short distance in front of the bicycle.

The pedestrian was wearing a reflective vest and was “walking near the edge of the roadway,” the report says.

The report says the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening. Traffic officer Ben Harrell said he could not discuss specifics of the victim’s injuries.

He asks anyone who saw anything to call him at 330-841-2797. The accident was on a Friday night just east of the Arby’s restaurant.

It was the second hit and run in Warren in less than three weeks.

On Dec. 20, a man, 23, was hit by a car at the intersection of East Market Street and Chestnut Avenue Southeast.

The driver of the car continued south after hitting the man and into the McDonald’s restaurant parking lot, where surveillance video picked up video of the car.
