Kwan Cheatham Jr. scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his third double-double this season and four starters reached double digits as Akron raced past Ohio, pushing its win streak to eight games. Isaiah Johnson and Jimond Ivey scored 15 points each for the Zips (15-3, 5-0 Mid-American Conference), and Antino Jackson tossed in 11 with three 3-pointers. The win was Akron’s 26th in a row at James A. Rhodes Arena, third longest in Division I. Jaaron Simmons scored 19 points to lead the Bobcats, who trailed 38-35 after a half. Gavin Block scored to start the second half as Ohio (11-5, 3-2) came within two points, but Cheatham hit a jumper, Ivey dunked and Johnson added a layup to kick off a 22-10 run. Ohio didn’t get closer than 12 points over the final 11 minutes. Akron shot 55 percent (31-56) with nine 3-pointers.
Buffalo 82, Kent State 69

CJ Massinburg scored 22 points and Nick Perkins added 17 to help Buffalo pull away midway through the second half to beat Kent State. The Golden Flashes had their last lead, 64-59 with 8:44 to play before the Bulls closed the game on a 23-5 run. Nikola Rakicevic scored eight of his 14 points, and Massinburg and Perkins each chipped in six points during the stretch. Kent State had six turnovers and missed 8 of 10 from the field. Jimmy Hall had 24 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Golden Flashes (9-9, 1-4 Mid-American), who have lost four straight and hasn’t won since their MAC opener, a 100-90 victory over Ball State. Deon Edwin scored 11 points and Kevin Zabo had 10. The Bulls (8-10, 2-3) have beaten Kent State seven straight games.
Toledo 85, Bowling Green 73
TOLEDO
Nate Navigato drilled 6 of 8 from beyond the arc to total a career-high 22 points as Toledo rolled over Bowling Green. Navigato was 6 of 10 from the floor and made all four free throws while dishing out a career-best seven assists. Jonathan Williams had 20 points and Steve Taylor Jr. added 10 while grabbing 12 rebounds. Toledo (10-8, 3-2 Mid-American) had won five straight before dropping two consecutive conference road games. Toledo led 43-32 at the break after finishing the first half on a 13-0 run. They took their largest lead, 66-44, with 9:10 remaining in the game. Demajeo Wiggins had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Bowling Green (7-11, 1-4).
N.C. State 79, Pittsburgh 74
RALEIGH, N.C.
Maverick Rowan scored a season-high 21 points and North Carolina State beat Pittsburgh. Rowan matched a career high with six 3-pointers while Terry Henderson added 21 points and four 3s to help the Wolfpack (13-6, 2-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) snap a three-game losing streak. An N.C. State defense called out by coach Mark Gottfried for a lack of toughness in a loss to Georgia Tech two nights earlier held the Panthers to one field goal in the final eight minutes. Michael Young scored 25 points, Cameron Johnson had 17 and Jamel Artis finished with 16 for the Panthers (12-7, 1-5), who have lost four in a row to take over sole possession of last place in the ACC.
No. 5 Kentucky 88, Mississippi State 81
STARKVILLE, MISS.
De’Aaron Fox scored 21 points, Malik Monk added 14 and Kentucky beat Mississippi State. Kentucky (16-2, 6-0 Southeastern Conference) looked like it would cruise to the win after building a 66-49 lead midway through the second half, but Mississippi State responded with 13 straight points to make things interesting down the stretch. Mississippi State (12-5, 3-2) was led by freshman Lamar Peters, who scored a career-high 25 points.
No. 21 Purdue 91, Illinois 68
WEST LAFAYETTE, IND.
Center Isaac Haas had 24 points and six rebounds, and power forward Caleb Swanigan added 22 points and 10 rebounds in Purdue’s dominating victory. Haas scored 13 points in the second half when the Boilermakers (15-4, 4-2 Big Ten) led by as many as 27. Swanigan had a four-point first half but was almost unstoppable during the second half, accounting for 18 points and five rebounds.Illinois (12-7, 2-4) got 15 points from Maverick Morgan and 12 from Malcolm Hill but had no answer for the Boilermakers’ two post players, each of whom had his way around the basket.
