Sharon Regional’s Senior Circle program is a membership-based program that promotes healthier lifestyles for adults 50 and older. Sharon Regional’s Senior Circle chapter offers members activities and benefits designed to enhance their quality of life and learn about health and general wellness by encouraging networking, offering fitness and health-related educational programs, in-hospital benefits and national and local discounts. Balance for Seniors: 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Thursday and Jan. 26 at the Shenango Valley YMCA, 925 N. Hermitage Road.

Lunch n’ Learn Physician Health Seminar: noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Diagnostic & Imaging Center, 2435 Garden Way, Hermitage. The topic is treating joint pain.

Acupuncture ‘happy hour’

Free screening for lead

WARREN

The Warren City Health District Nursing Division, 258 E. Market St., Suite 327, is offering free lead-poisoning and prevention screenings for children age 1-5 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 23. Results are available the same day.

Potential sources of lead exposure include cosmetics, food and toys containing lead such as lead-based paint; hobbies that include using lead-based materials; lead dust; occupations that involve exposure to lead; soil contaminated with lead and water with elevated lead levels.

Childhood immunizations also are available during those hours. Parents must have their child’s shot record. For vaccine and shot pricing and other information, call 330-841-2596.

Diabetes program

YOUNGSTOWN

The Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., is offering a free six-week program, “Everyone with Diabetes Counts,” for people who have diabetes or pre-diabetes, are 60 and older, or have Medicare or Medicare/Medicaid cards.

The program is from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays beginning Feb. 6 and ending March 13. The program is not a replacement for medical care. Participants should keep all medical appointments and follow the directions of their health care providers. To register, call 330-744-5071.

Drugs & Alcohol Chat

BETHESDA, MD.

High schools can register for the 10th annual Drugs & Alcohol Chat Day, a web chat at 8 a.m. Jan. 26 during National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week, which runs Jan. 23–29.

Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to about 100 schools. The event is coordinated by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in partnership with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, both part of the National Institutes of Health.

Drugs & Alcohol Chat Day is a live, online chat conducted between teen students and scientists during a 10-hour period when students from high schools around the country ask questions about drugs and alcohol use.
