Faces drug charges

NILES

John C. Painter, 49, of Youngstown Road is charged with felony drug trafficking after a lengthy investigation by the Niles Police Department.

Police found Painter to have sold prescription opiate pain medication at an address in the 900 block of Youngstown Road, according to the Niles Police Facebook page.

Painter was booked into the county jail Saturday night and was released later Saturday. He was arraigned Friday in Niles Municipal Court, where Judge Thomas Townley set bond of $7,500.

The charge has a specification that Painter trafficked drugs near a school, police said. If convicted, Painter could get eight years in prison.

School registration

Registration packets for kindergarten at Struthers City Schools will be available for pickup at the board of education office, 99 Euclid Avenue, the week of Feb. 13-16. Completed forms must be returned to the office sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

A registration event will take place at the elementary school, 520 9th St., during parent/teacher conference night from 3 to 8 p.m. Feb. 16.

These items are required for kindergarten registration: the child must be 5 on or before Sept. 30 (it is recommended by Aug. 1), the child’s birth certificate, vaccination record, custody papers if warranted by the family situation and three proofs of residency. Also required is proof of identification of the person (parent/guardian) registering the child.

Public meeting

LAKE MILTON

Mahoning County Auditor Ralph Meacham will conduct a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Milton Township Fire Department, 15992 Milton Avenue, with trustees and fire chiefs from Milton, Jackson, Ellsworth and Berlin townships to discuss emergency medical services in those four townships.

Coffee, conversation

YOUNGSTOWN

Councilwoman Anita Davis, D-6th, extends an invitation to sit down and share what is going on in your neighborhood for the first “Coffee & Conversation” this year at 10 a.m. Saturday at Flambeau Dinner Club, 2308 Market St.

Davis will provide complimentary coffee and doughnuts as she provides an overview of major happenings and will entertain questions during these gatherings on Saturday mornings.

Holiday lights winner

STRUTHERS

Nancy Manning of Struthers is a first-prize winner of the Ohio Edison FirstEnergy Corp. “Merry & Bright” holiday lights competition.

Manning received 800 votes on Facebook for her display, which included 25,000 lights, a singing and dancing Santa and two archways leading up to her front door. She will receive a $100 gift card.
