GROVE CITY, PA.

For the second year Grove City College is teaming up with local, state and national partners to inspire young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. GCC, in collaboration with Pennsylvania Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, will host the Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Grove City College Women in STEM Summit Wednesday on campus. More than 300 local middle- and high-school students are registered. It offers students STEM interest-building activities led by Grove City College faculty and students along with MIT students, including hands-on projects, question-and-answer sessions and a chance to “test drive” Grove City College’s STEM Hall.

Fresh produce

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. is launching a Community Supported Agriculture program. Iron Roots CSA is a way for members to buy fresh produce directly from the Iron Roots Urban Farm and other local growers and support community revitalization, the agency said. The CSA will provide a weekly share of fresh vegetables and fruit to subscribers for 20 weeks throughout the growing season. Pickup locations include the Idora Neighborhood Farmers’ Market, Warren Farmers’ Market and Catullo Prime Meats, Boardman. Share prices are $650 for the season, or $600 if paid in full by Feb. 15. Computer for kids

The Oak Hill Collaborative, 507 Oak Hill Ave. has debuted an Oak Hill Makerspace “Raspberry Pi” Program to teach children in middle and high school how to build and program their own Raspberry Pi microcomputer. A Raspberry Pi is an inexpensive, credit-card sized single-board computer that plugs into a TV or keyboard. At the conclusion of the four-week course, students will take home their own working computer with internet access, along with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. GIRARD

The Gibson Agency LLC recently presented $10,000 in donations to 10 local charities that participated in the agency’s fifth annual Holiday Giving Campaign. With a total of 3,919 votes, The Paw Platoon came in first place, earning the Youngstown-based animal rescue the top donation amount of $5,000. The second-place charity was Homes for Kids Inc./Child and Family Solutions, and it received a $1,000 donation. Eight remaining organizations each received a $500 – Making Kids Count, Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, Northeast Ohio Adoption Services, Brighten Up for the Kids, Our Community Kitchen, Hospice of the Valley, Disabled American Veterans Trumbull County Chapter #11, and Tails of Hope.
