Rally, march meeting set today against repeal of ACA

WARREN

The Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative, Ohio Women’s Action Network, faith leaders, students, community members and seniors plan to gather outside the Trumbull Memorial Hospital to rally and march as part of today’s National Day of Action.

The observance, part of a nationwide series of protests, takes the theme of “Don’t Make America Sick Again.”

Organizers say community members will voice their opposition to lessening accessibility of health care to everyone. The repeal of the Affordable Care Act will affect approximately 30 million people, they said.

Ohio stands to lose 125,000 jobs alone, they said.

Those wishing to participate are asked to meet at 1 p.m. at East Market Street and Laird Avenue in Warren. After a brief outdoor rally, a community meeting will take place at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 119 Laird Avenue NE. U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, is scheduled to speak.

In Youngstown today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown of Cleveland, D-Ohio, will convene a roundtable discussion at 2 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, 1044 Belmont Ave., to discuss actions by Congress to repeal the ACA.

Brown will be joined by Valley health care leaders, who will outline their views concerning the consequences of repeal for the Mahoning Valley patients they serve.
