UVC begins its 76th year with meeting Monday

The first meeting of the 76th year of the United Veterans Council is at 7 p.m. Monday at American Legion Post 247, 104 E. Liberty St.

The UVC’s mission is to aid member organizations in acting in concert in the planning and coordinate functions and operations of a civic, patriotic or veteran character throughout the community, said Jennifer L. Baun, UVC commander and president of Northeast Ohio Women Veterans Unit 21.

The UVC provides a coordinating and planning agency for veteran service organizations in Youngstown and surrounding areas. It meets the third Monday of each month at various veteran area posts.

Also, UVC annually recognizes an area veteran, civilian and youth of the year. The 2017 event is March 24 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center, 4500 Norquest Blvd., Austintown.
