Poland Union first-grade students brought friends and families to the O.K. Corral on Dec. 20 during their holiday concert at Poland Seminary High School.

Every year the first-grade students perform a free concert close to Christmas time. This year the concert had a Western theme and the students dressed like cowboys and cowgirls. There were Christmas songs that had a Western style to them and the skits performed between songs told a story.

Principal Mike Masucci played a character named Bubble Gum Bart who was trying to stop the students from having Christmas. During the skits between each song, the children told the story of how Bubble Gum Bart turned from an enemy to a good person. Bubble Gum Bart learned, with the help of the Candy Cane Kid, that the students wanted to be his friends and they all celebrated Christmas together.

Music instructor Dean Wilson has worked with the students during the past few weeks preparing the students for the performance.

Every year the performance has a different theme to it. This is something the students look forward to once they start first grade.

The concert takes place the last week of school before winter break. This gives the opportunity to get themselves and their families into the holiday spirit and have a fun week of school prior to break.
