POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Jan. 4

Arrest: Police conducted a welfare check at a Park Avenue residence before taking 44-year-old Sarah L. Fertig into custody. Fertig, of Park, Hubbard, was wanted on a Mahoning County warrant.

Identity fraud: A Doris Drive woman told officers she received a Facebook notification indicating her teenage daughter and 78 others had been tagged, which led to a sexually inappropriate video.

Attempted identity fraud: A Hager Street man reported a credit card company’s security department notified him that someone had tried unsuccessfully to use the accuser’s personal information.

Harassment: A Stoneybrook Drive man said a friend of his estranged wife had sent him unwanted communications via Facebook.

Felonious assault: A Rebecca Avenue man alleged a Salem woman, 41, who had lived with him for about three months and with whom he had sexual relations failed to disclose she was HIV positive.

Jan. 5

Arrest: Authorities were dispatched to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital to pick up 22-year-old Kelsie M. Scahill of Coitsville-Hubbard Road, Youngstown. She was wanted on a warrant.

Deception: A pharmacist with CVS Pharmacy, 134 Youngstown-Hubbard Road, reported having received a call from the company’s headquarters stating a fraudulent prescription had been filled.

Theft: A Youngstown-Hubbard Road man found out someone without authorization has been electronically removing small denominations of money from his bank account over several months, resulting in a $600 loss.

Jan. 6

Recovered property: A citizen reported having found a pair of reading glasses in a black case while walking near state Route 304.

Jan. 7

Identity fraud: A Meadowland Drive woman learned that a Macy’s store credit-card account had been opened with her Social Security number but without her consent.

Arrest: Poland Village police handed to Hubbard authorities 26-year-old Daniel R. Fiore Jr. of West Pine Lake Road, Salem, who was wanted on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court to face one count each of theft, obstructing official business, criminal trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia.

LIBERTY

Jan. 5

Assault: Authorities answered a call about a woman who had reportedly assaulted her boyfriend in the 3000 block of Frederick Street, then charged 59-year-old Janet L. Alexander of Columbus with assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after alleging she had yelled at people upstairs, became belligerent toward police and refused to calm down. In addition, authorities had to use a stun gun because Alexander fought with an officer and refused several times to cooperate, a report showed.

Criminal damaging: A man in the 2700 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road reported someone drove through his yard, doing an estimated $1,000 in landscaping damage and damaging a mailbox.

Theft: Two men reportedly stole about $200 worth of miscellaneous clothing and pairs of shoes from Cititrends, 3489 Belmont Ave.

Jan. 6

Arrest: Weathersfield Township police relinquished custody of 22-year-old Derrick G. Forney of Barclay Street, Niles, who was wanted on a Liberty warrant.

Assault: A man alleged that while at a Goldie Road big-box store, another man had intentionally struck his leg with a shopping cart.

Arrest: Police responded to a 911 call from a Belmont Avenue motel before taking 42-year-old Katrina R. Hunter of Arlington Avenue, Youngstown, into custody. Hunter was wanted on a city warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a menacing charge; also, she refused several times to identify herself, authorities said.

Trespassing: Police received a complaint about a suspicious person at a Belmont Avenue grocery store before charging 56-year-old Kevin B. Carter with criminal trespassing. The Cleveland man admitted having tried to sell fake gold jewelry to customers at the business, a report said.

Jan. 7

Harassment: A Madison Road woman said she received threatening text messages implying she would be harmed.

Arrest: Officers dealt with a vehicular crash near Interstate 80, then charged Michael J. Berlin of Meadowland Drive, Hubbard, with operating a vehicle impaired. The 21-year-old Berlin had a 0.127 blood-alcohol content, which exceeds Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report stated.

Jan. 8

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a vacant home in the 1000 block of East Park Circle via the front door, removed some of the copper piping and wiring and cut a water line, resulting in a flooded basement.

Domestic violence: A 17-year-old Girard boy faced a fifth-degree felony domestic-violence charge after his father alleged the teen had twice pushed him during an argument related to another person’s missing cellphone.

Jan. 9

Criminal mischief: A woman told police someone had thrown eggs at her East Drive residence.

Jan. 10

Identity theft: A Green Acres Drive woman reported numerous accounts have been set up in her name over a six- or seven-year period.

Theft: A man reportedly fled in a Chevrolet pickup truck after having stolen two TVs from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.

GIRARD

Jan. 8

Attempted burglary: Someone reportedly tried to enter an apartment in the 500 block of North Avenue and damaged a door. Nothing appeared to have been disturbed or was missing, however.

Assault: Police responded to a fight in the 100 block of Pittsburg Street, where a man reported two men had struck the accuser at a party. The victim had cuts to his face, a swollen eye and was bleeding from the mouth, a report said.

Jan. 9

Menacing: Officers responded to a 911 hang-up call from Pittsburg Street before charging 45-year-old Jerrold L. Allen of Pittsburg, Girard, with menacing. Allen had made several threatening statements to an officer while demanding Allen be arrested, a report showed.

Drugs: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 422 led to the arrest of Nathan M. Hersman on charges of having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and marijuana possession. The 21-year-old Kent man had an open bottle of vodka as well as a bag containing 1.34 grams of suspected marijuana, police alleged.

Harassment: A Lawrence Avenue man said he received two calls from someone claiming he owed money for medical bills and who demanded the accuser’s credit-card information. The man further reported he was threatened when he refused to provide such information.

Drugs: Authorities issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to William J. Courtney, 25, of Harding Street, Liberty, charging him with marijuana possession after having pulled him over near North Avenue and when, police said, Courtney handed them a bag containing about 2 grams of suspected marijuana.

Jan. 10

Trespassing: A worker for a Route 422 exterminating company reported seeing a woman in a black minivan parked in a fenced-off area off limits to customers who also reportedly took pictures of a nearby towing yard. A short time later, an employee with the towing business alleged the woman had driven toward him, barely missing the accuser, as he tried to talk to her.

Jan. 11

Theft: A North Avenue man noticed a $250 leather coat missing from his residence.
